ChatGPT blamed for teen’s death: Parents call it ‘suicide coach’; OpenAI says making changes

The parents of a 16-year-old who died by suicide in April have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that ChatGPT acted as a “coach” and helped their son plan his death. OpenAI has announced new updates to improve the chatbot’s ability to recognize and respond to users in mental distress, including stronger safeguards for suicide-related conversations and new parental controls.
